I loved this incredible book written by a therapist, who pursues therapy herself to process an unexpected break-up. The author Lori Gottlieb shares conversations with her therapist Wendell, as well as stories & issues of her owns patients.
It’s not only full of authentic words and feelings, but also advocates psychotherapy as a way to take care of your mental health, talk about challenges and gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
I couldn’t agree more.
Some take-aways:
- The problem usually isn’t the problem.
- Feelings will be there regardless. So you might as well as well welcome them because they hold important clues.
- Frankl: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
- When we feel fragile, we’re like raw eggs—we crack open and splatter if dropped. But when we develop more resilience, we’re like hard-boiled eggs—we might get dinged up if dropped, but we won’t crack completely and spill all over the place.
- Relationships in life don’t really end, even if you never see the person again. Every person you’ve been close to lives on somewhere inside you.
